Hello Valerie, my name is Ryan de Sousa. I was linked to your website some time ago by a member on
Ancestry.com, who I reached out to for assistance on developing my own family tree. I am trying to find information on my Trinidadian/West Indies family and know very little about them. My grandfather, Richard Neville de Sousa Sr. (1914-1998), migrated from Trinidad and became a citizen of the United States in 1959. After his move to the States, he changed the spelling of his last name from "de Souza" to "de Sousa" for reasons that my father and I are unsure of. While browsing your website I saw a photograph under the "Wedding Photos" page of my grandfather's sister, Lena Joyce Sheppard who was married to Charles A Sheppard. I was curious to know if you had any additional pictures or information on the de Souza's that you wouldn't mind sharing, or if you knew of someone else who may?
Ancestry.com has provided limited information unfortunately. My grandfather's parents were Robert de Souza and Alice Ferriera. His siblings were Stan, Leslie (married to Ida Amelia Sheppard), Grace, Kathleen, and of course Joyce. I would be more than happy to provide further information if needed. Thank you for your time.

Hi Valerie, I'm happy to hear back from you! I would be thrilled with even the smallest bit of information that you could provide. My grandfather didn't talk much about Trinidad after he came to the States. I know he was close to his sister Kathleen, who left Trinidad for Canada at some point and had a son named Steve. Sadly I am not on Facebook and generally don't do much on social media at the moment.
What's it like in Holland? I've done far less travel than I would like in my life so far, and the countries of North and West Europe are high on the list of places I would love to visit. Me and the rest of my family are from Indiana here in the United States. The weather here has definitely gotten cold, but if the last few years are anything to go off of, we won't get anything more than a light dusting of snow unfortunately. I look forward to hearing back from you soon!
