'N SITE:
The douaniers of Napoleon (Douanes Imperiales = Imperial official customs) were born in 1804 as a semi militairy unit, their job was mantaining the continental blockade against England, confiscating and searching for illegal English goods (which were entirely forbidden in Napoleons empire), were used as local police forces etc, and used as skirmishers in militairy campaignes, their units kept fighting against France enemies untill november 1815!
