Jacobus Jan Beckering died on Sept. 23, 2016 in Chestertown, MD. He was 82. Born in Utrecht, Netherlands on June 10, 1934, the son of the late Herman W. Beckering and Dorothea Bruinwold Riedel Beckering. He worked for Black and Decker in Maryland and later in Brockville, Ontario, Canada. He also worked for Steelcase in Grand Rapids, MI from where he retired in 1998 and moved to the Eastern Shore of Maryland. During his career with B&D he was responsible for many patents for creating such products as the cordless tools and the Workmate. In addition to his wife Helen Robinson Beckering, he is survived by his daughters, Laura Beckering Cooke (George), Dorothea Beckering Crescenze (Paul), his sons, Dereck Beckering, Thomas Beckering (Jeanette), one sister, Francina van Arkel Beckering, nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
